Spanish lemons very visible on the market and tomatoes increasingly popular

Lemons
Spanish lemons dominated the business. The interest in the supply was steady; the prices didn’t fluctuate much. In Hamburg the season for lemons from Uruguay started, which slowed sales of Argentine lemons. Here the prices had to be reduced slightly. However in Berlin, the Argentinean lemons became a bit more expensive.

Tomatoes
Vine tomatoes mainly came from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The increased supplies, mostly of an excellent quality were met with an increased popularity. However the demand wasn’t larger than the supply, therefore reduced prices occurred daily. The initial attempts to get higher prices failed miserably. Only in Munich the delivery of the tomatoes improved in such a way that the prices increased. The beefsteak tomatoes came mostly from Belgium but some came from the Netherlands. The prices rose in some places; although they sometimes dropped due to a decrease in demand. Cherry tomatoes came predominantly from Holland, Italy and Germany. The prices increased depending on the presentation and quality. However, the standard 250-gram punnets weren’t always in high demand and therefore became frequently cheaper.

Apples
Overseas imports dominated. The supply decreased a bit however it was sufficient to fulfil the demand. The prices barely changed. The German Jonagold and Elstar dominated the European range of apples.

Pears
The trade of pears from overseas was low. And while the supply decreased the demand could easily be satisfied. There were no large fluctuations in the price.

Grapes
The supply of green seedless grapes got the most attention. The convincing quality couldn’t prevent the price reduction, mostly due to the limited storage possibilities.

Strawberries
The availability of German strawberries grew. In some places the quality left something to be desired. The availability was often much higher than the demand and the prices dropped during the week.

Apricots
The trade fluctuated; in Hamburg and Munich the interest was high, and the prices rose. However, the surplus of apricots with flaws resulted in price reductions.

Cherries
The quality varied and smaller cherries were on offer. The cool weather decreased the demand too. A surplus and lower prices couldn’t be prevented.

Peaches and nectarines
The demand ensured steady sales. Prices dropped anyway, especially peaches and nectarines from Spain and Italy got lower prices. And the prices of products with quality problems had to be reduced considerably.

Plums
On the one hand the interest for German plums was high and the supply could not cover the demand completely. On the other hand the demand lowered as customers criticized the lack of flavor. The prices frequently dropped.

Kiwis
The balance of supply and demand meant that the prices didn’t change. Occasionally the starting prices of Kiwis from Chile increased.

Bananas
The supply matched the demand. No fluctuations in the prices were noted.

Cauliflowers
The supply often matched the demand and the prices barely changed. Only in Munich the prices were reduced a bit, in order to stimulate sales.

Lettuce
The German iceberg lettuce dominated the market and the Dutch iceberg lettuces completed the offer. The lettuce sold quickly and the prices remained stable.

Cucumbers
The prices remained at the same level or increased slightly. In many cases the demand stagnated while the supply increased, so that successive price reductions should speed up the sale of the surplus.

Bell peppers
The prices of the green and yellow bell peppers fluctuated considerably. Due to the shortage of supply, mostly upward. However in most cases the prices of the red bell peppers remained at the same level.

Onions
The prices of consumer onions didn’t change much. Due to the fast sales the prices of the large supply of Spanish onions remained constant.
