U.S. becomes largest destination for Peruvian bananas

According to information supplied by ADEX to FreshPlaza, banana exports from Peru, the world's leading exporter of organic bananas, are still growing strongly after registering a 28.32% increase in value and 24.17% in volume between January and May 2015 compared to the same period of 2014.

If the growing trend continues, the FOB value of the country's exports will surpass 150 million dollars in 2015

While shipments to all major destinations have increased, growth in the United States is particularly noteworthy, as it doubled its orders and thus became the main buyer, exceeding $ 21.74 million during the period at hand. Growth in the U.S. market may be strongly influenced by the strength of the dollar against the Euro.

The United States, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, main buyers of Peruvian organic bananas.

In the following graph, we can see how the Netherlands, which accounted for 41.87% of the sales between January and May 2014, has dropped to 34.90% in 2015, even though its purchases increased by 4.93% in terms of value and by 2.31% in volume.

Lastly, it is worth noting how the average FOB price has gone from 0.73 dollars in 2014 to 0.765 dollars in 2015, which means an increase of 5%.
