On June 19, 1915 the Coöperatieve Veilingvereeniging Venlo (Cooperative Auction Association) was founded in Venlo. 100 years later ZON celebrated their 100 year anniversary at the 'Lekker Venlo' (Tasty Venlo) venue with members, ZON employees, customers and business partners. More than 1,000 people showed up to celebrate the 100 year anniversary with the cooperative. Earlier that day ZON received a 'royal' designation from the commissioner of the King in Limburg, Mr. Theo Bovens. The glass was broken on stage exactly at midnight to finish off the party in style.

"We may be 100 years old now, but we are still relevant," says ZON director Michiel van Ginkel. He wished the visitors a warm welcome to the place with the "best that Limburg has to offer." This weekend the sixth annual 'Lekker Venlo' culinary event will take place in the Julianapark, where businesses and visitors can sample dishes from several top restaurants, mostly made with local produce. ZON celebrated the centenary the night before, which was perfect for the 100 year anniversary of the cooperative.
In these hundred years ZON has gone through various mergers and structural changes, and grown into an important horticulture food cooperative in Europe. Along with ZON fruit & vegetables, ZON also has their own soft fruit division, and Fresh Park Venlo falls under their cooperative.
