Turkey: Ekosis stonefruit shipments to Russia on the rise
Ekosis (Ekonomik Sistem), founded in 2000, is a Turkish company, based in Mersin, devoted to the production and export of citrus and to the shipment of other fruits and vegetables from associated producers, including stonefruit.
At this time, most of the firm’s efforts are going into the stonefruit campaign, which is only just starting, as according to Manager Mr Seref, Turkey will have huge demand, mostly from Russia. “Overall, we export 30-35 thousand tonnes per year, including citrus, and most goes to Russia. For stonefruit, we shipped four trucks per day in the summer season last year and this year we expect an increase of 16-20%.”
The manager of Ekosis affirms that, despite last week’s rainfall, which caused a delay in the start of the company’s programmes, the quality of this year’s stonefruit is really good. “We are trying to reach our customers with the best prices, but I also trust our product will meet consumer expectations in both Russia and Europe.”
As for the remainder of the summer season, Mr Seref explains that “the apricot season will end in 15 days, then peaches will arrive next month and we’ll continue with grapes. Our main destinations will be Russia, Latvia, Serbia and Germany.”
