Progress in regularisation of SANDO mandarins

Last October, ALCANAR VERD CITRICS I VIVERS SL, owner of the SANDO mandarin variety (according to the EC register of protected varieties), started negotiating with the Periquina Provincial Growers Association, in Castellon, in order to reach a partnership agreement and facilitate the regulation process of the growers cultivating this variety, popularly known as PERIQUINA.

"After many meetings, we came to a standstill, as the representatives of the Periquina Provincial Growers Association decided not to accept the outcome of the negotiations held for months and went back to their initial proposals," says Miguel Matamoros, manager of ALCANAR VERD CITRICS I VIVERS SL. "We considered that the negotiations had ended after concluding that the sole purpose of the meetings was to unnecessarily delay the process, and not to reach any agreements. With this decision, we intend to continue with the legal proceedings and defend our interests as owners of the license, as well as those of the growers who have regularised their situation or are involved in the process of voluntary regularisation, as agreed in August 2014," he explains.

The aforementioned order of Mercantile Court n. 1 of Castellon reads:

The names and addresses of the associated growers who cultivate the variety SANDO, colloquially known as PERIQUINA, must be supplied by the PERIQUINA PROVINCIAL GROWERS ASSOCIATION, indicating plots where this variety is grown and specifying the number of trees planted and their ages.

ALCANAR VERD CITRICS I VIVERS SL., aware of the legal implications derived thereof, aims to alert growers who are in an irregular situation and encourage them to take responsible decisions following the above-mentioned order.
