Peru: Raspberry generates high expectations Lambayeque

The Sierra Exportadora program described the progress of planting and raspberry production in the Andean region of Canaris (Lambayeque region) as positive.

Patricia Monzón Zavaleta, director of the headquarters of Sierra Exportadora in Lambayeque, said the first 5,000 seedlings planted on one hectare in the Los Rosales Association at Cañaris were developing successfully, after being fertilized by technical experts from the program and from the Ministry of Agriculture.

"We planted these seedlings in November and they have developed very well after having gone through periods of acclimatization and management. In July we are going to reinforce the training program because it is not a proper cultural aspect of the area, but it is responding well," she said.

She also stated they had found a domestic market in order to allocate the harvest and that this experience would help them promote more crops with larger partners and better modernization.

"For example, we already have ice cream factories that have told us they can purchase this product. In other words, we have a good production and a good market and this experience can help us expand to a second stage," she added.

She also said that the planting of blueberries and citrus could help them close an important production chain in this Andean region, which has the perfect weather conditions for planting.
