Cultivar opens new banana ripening chambers Madrid

Cultivar, a leading importer and distributor of fruit and vegetables, has opened new ripening chambers at its warehouse in Mercamadrid.

The new facilities consist of 5 degreening chambers with a capacity for 160 pallets and a 600 square metre handling room, all equipped with the latest technology available.

The pressurised ripening achieved with this new technology allows for a more accurate and homogeneous ripening process, which ultimately improves the quality of the final product, which has a better, more uniform colour and a longer shelf life.

The new chambers come as a new addition to the facilities launched almost three years ago in Barcelona. In 2012, Cultivar decided to devote itself to the marketing of bananas by investing in new refrigeration facilities at its headquarters in Barcelona, and after assessing the results of the new project it decided to invest in Mercamadrid. The new cooling facilities will allow Cultivar to be more efficient and competitive in the ripening of both Canarian and non-European bananas and to meet the most demanding distributor requirements. The goal is to continue offering the best service and excellent quality.

Cultivar will also use these new facilities to ripen other products, such as avocados, mangoes or papayas. Consumers increasingly demand more ready-to-eat products at their optimal ripening stage, with guaranteed flavour and texture, and this technology makes it possible to ripen exotic fruits and supply them in the condition that consumers demand.
