Chile: Nut exports increased 33%

According to Claudia Carbonell, director of the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (PASO), exports of nuts in the first quarter amounted to $51.5 million dollars, i.e. 33% more than in the same period of the previous year.

"These figures demonstrate the dynamism of the national nut industry, and that we have a growing potential market worldwide thanks to the high quality of our products. The public and private sector created the Dried Fruits Board to enhance competitiveness and promote the adequate development of the crops. This board is currently working through its subcommittees," she stated.

Nut exports between January and April 2015 amounted to 7.336 tons, i.e. a 26% increase in volume over the same period of 2014.

The main products shipped were hazelnuts with shells ($15.4 million), shelled nuts ($ 12.7 million), walnuts with shells ($ 11.6 million), and shelled hazelnuts ($11.4 million USD), among others.

The main destinations were Italy (31%), Turkey (21%), Brazil (15%), Venezuela (10%), Germany (5%), Argentina (3%), Ecuador ( 2%), Switzerland (2%), and the Netherlands (2%).
