Driscoll’s glasshouse blackberries impress berry market

Berry company Driscoll’s kicked off the Dutch season with big, beautiful and delicious blackberries! By taking their successful variety Driscoll’s® Victoria™ to the glasshouse, they are able to produce berries with exceptional taste and outstanding fruit size.

Driscoll's growers Jan and Alfons Diepstraten.

Fanny Pitsioudis, Driscoll’s Agronomy Consultant, is an expert in innovative growing techniques. He explains: “Driscoll’s® Victoria™ is the result of our own unique breeding programme in which we fully focus on taste, appearance and shelf life. What we discovered is that this blackberry variety performs even better in the protected environment of a glasshouse, as the berries are bigger, sweeter and juicer than before.”

Driscoll’s growers Jan and Alfons Diepstraten from growers association 'Best of Four', reap the benefits of this glass house success. Diepstraten: “We trust Driscoll’s when it comes to high quality varieties and advanced production methods. Last year, we already experienced how huge and sweet these blackberries are, that is why we decided to expand our production from 2 hectare to 5 hectare. I am looking forward to see the final results of this season, although this will take some time as we will be picking blackberries until December.”
