Mexico: Tamaulipas is still the largest producer of lime

Tamaulipas ranks as the leading producer of lime nationwide as it produces over 81,000 tons of Italian lime within 4,700 acres in Llera, Güémez, Padilla, Hidalgo and Victoria, said Carlos Solis Gomez, head of Rural Development in the state.

The Italian lime from Tamaulipas is intended for export because there is no demand for this fresh fruit in the country and very little demand for it by the processed products industry.

Tamaulipas citrus exports are mainly destined to the United States and Canada. Exports of fresh fruit packed in boxes from Tamaulipas have increased because the product is of excellent quality.

The economic benefit generated by this business strengthens job creation in Tamaulipas; as well as the modernization of agricultural practices and added value required for certification demanded by the food industry.
