New potato supply remains manageable

A recent analysis concludes that the available and expected quantities of potatoes are smaller than the previous year. Less important suppliers, such as Morocco and Tunisia, are hardly or not all on the market. From Egypt come fewer potatoes than planned and Israel only recently began with shipping the spring harvest and shipped very little of the yield from the winter harvest. This was caused by the sale of the potatoes to the Russian market in both cases.

The trade in new potatoes has started well, and the planning of the growth and harvest of new potatoes in Europe is relatively normal. The Spanish new potatoes are expected in the latter part op May. After that potatoes from Portugal will reach the market. And the new potatoes from Germany will be ready for harvest and packaging well before the end of June. Until then the imported new potatoes from Israel and Egypt will probably be sold in a controlled way, with a matching price.
