Slight increase peaches, flat peaches and nectarines

This season's peach forecast was released at EuroPeche at MedFel, France. At the moment a delay of about one week to 10 days can be noted compared to last year, which was an early year, but the weather in May and June could still change the situation.

On a European level, if compared to 2014, harvest forecasts indicate a stable 2015 harvest, with +1% in peaches, flat peaches and nectarines, reaching slightly less than 3 million tons and +2% in pavies with 770,000 tons.

Compared to the 2009-2013 average, a slight +5% increase can be seen for peaches, flat peaches and nectarines and a 3% decrease in pavies.

For peaches and nectarines, in different countries, the forecasts are close to volumes harvested last year. Differences are primarily linked to the development of production surfaces, which are increasing in Spain, stable in Greece and decreasing in Italy and France.

Round and flat peaches and nectarines are estimated 3% higher than last year in Spain; Greece and Italy are stable whilst France sees a slight -4% decrease.
The trend for flat peaches can be noted in Spain with a 12% increase compared to 2014, with production beginning from orchards planted between 2010-2013, despite a decrease in plantation and some grafting.

Following a continuous decrease over these last few years, pavies, which are normally destined for processing, seem to have stabilised, notably in Greece and Spain, the main producers.
