The personal representative for Africa of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Günter Nooke, has confirmed the creation of a “green innovation centre for agriculture” in Cameroon. The structure will be dedicated to processing agricultural products.
This green innovation centre is 1 of the 10 projects that Germany intends to develop in Africa. It will be a training centre for new agricultural technologies, notably irrigation techniques and potato and poultry farming.
Germany seems to be insisting on the rapid construction of a chemical fertiliser factory in Limbe (South West), by German company Ferrostaal GmbH. Construction is lagging, but the documents for this structure were signed two years ago for a FCFA 1,250 billion investment.
This unit aims to produce 600,000 tons of ammonia and 700,000 tons of urea per year, for the local market and export in the sub-region.
Günter Nooke says that “it would be worth making the most of these major investments, and therefore of the construction of the fertiliser factory, to develop or enhance the economic development of the country as a whole”.
