US: At 4Earth Farms, every day is Earth Day
While the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22nd, 4EARTH FARMS of Los Angeles, CA is reflecting that at 4EARTH FARMS - they strive to make every day, Earth Day.
For the past several years, 4EARTH FARMS has worked with its vendors and grower partners to reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable.
“Doing the right thing when it comes to the environment is not a business strategy for us, it is a tenet,” said David Lake, Co-Founder and CEO of 4EARTH FARMS. “I think those of us who earn our living from the earth have a responsibility to be good stewards of our planet - a philosophy that is also good for business.”
“While our 160,000 square foot facility in Los Angeles was built “as state of the art” at the time it was completed, we are constantly reinvesting to improve its efficiency through projects like our cooling tower water recycler. That one investment saves over 18,000 gallons of water usage per day. We have also invested in waterless bathroom fixtures, we are separating our trash into three components to be recycled, composted, or incinerated to reduce waste and we have turned off our sprinklers and started converting all of our landscaping to drought resistant California native plants.”
“In our most current project of sustainability, we are currently replacing all our warehouse lighting to LED fixtures. LED is a perfect example of how investing in environmentally friendly technology can have a huge impact on both our energy costs and our global impact. Our consultants calculated that our LED conversion project will keep 987,768 pounds of Carbon Dioxide, 1,646,279 grams of Sulfer Dioxide and 3,819,380 grams of Nitrogen Oxides from being released into the air. That is all in just one year!”
“Earth Day is a wonderful cause to celebrate and a solid reminder that individually and in business, we can all do better to protect our environment,” expressed Lake.
