"Kees Schouten: "Much less supply after cold winter"

First Malta potatoes at Altena early this week

At Aardappelgroothandel Altena, the first Santé potatoes from Malta will arrive the start of this week. "There are even about a dozen bags of Alphas already," Kees Schouten says. "Supply is very lacklustre due to the bad weather in Malta. During the first weeks, supplies will be limited due to the rain these past days."

According to the wholesaler, a lot of demand already comes from supermarkets in particular. "In Malta, there are far fewer potatoes due to the cold winter. Particularly toward the end of December it was very cold, and potatoes have frozen.

During his visit to Malta, Kees was interviewed by a Maltese newspaper, in which he expresses his appreciation for Malta, the agricultural community in general, and the potato in particular.
