Marni Organics starts overseas import

Cees van Vugt and Jeffrey Moret have been active with Marni Organics for over two months now. The start of the company has been promising. "The biggest challenge is actually that there's only two of us. We're getting quite a bit of business, and we're already looking to expand the commercial team," Cees says. "Demand for organic fresh produce is hot. There was mainly a shortage of organic pears and cucumbers. At the moment, we're getting remarkably high demand from Great Britain."

Cees and Jeffrey

The past weeks, Marni Organics received a lot of organic vegetables from Spain. "Courgettes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, but also romaine and iceberg lettuce," Jeffrey sums up. "Together with Frutas Luna, we have direct lines to specially selected growers, and demand is mainly good from the export markets. We are exporting a lot of Spanish greenhouse vegetables to the United States, for instance, and we're hoping to continue this trend in the Dutch season with the same volumes."

"In two weeks, the Dutch organic greenhouse vegetable season begins with the first cucumbers. The greenhouse vegetables make up our main product group, followed by citrus and open field vegetables. In addition to Spain, we have direct import lines from Italy and Greece. We are also starting overseas export from the end of week 9 on, with the first Williams pears from Argentina, followed by Packham and Anjou pears and Gala and Red Delicious apples."

Marni Organics clients are mainly wholesalers and retail suppliers across Europe. For the regular lines, they'll be receiving organic produce in boxes with the Budget Bio brand in the coming time. "We're looking to the spring with optimism. We are operating in a fun market, with fluctuating prices, and we're trying to respond well to demand. We'll also be doing some more exclusive business with air freight in plums, peaches and nectarines from Australia!"
