Ambassador Pieter Jan Kleiweg:

As of February 14 Senegal will be closed to import onions

As of February 14th Senegal will be closed to import onions. This information comes from the Dutch ambassador, Pieter Jan Kleijweg, who told our editors, "Local onion production is now well underway. Before January, 25,000 tons of onion quotas were allocated to exporters. The quota has been filled. Now we just hope there are no Dutch traders sending containers to Dakar without the prospect of a quota. Because they will not be able to enter the country, and I already warned people of this in December," says the ambassador. The market is expected to open again near the end of July/beginning of August, if the local supply is exhausted by then.
