Limited availability runner beans

The availability of runner beans is limited at the moment. Normally, supplies are lowest in the period December-January, with supplies going up again in January, Smeding reports in its newsletter.

This traditional dip in supplies is caused by old plants being removed and replaced by new crops in many greenhouses during this period. This season, however, production remained at a steady level during December, as a result of relatively warm weather conditions.

In January, the temperatures in Morocco went down significantly, which has meant that the new crops in the overlapping period are taking longer to arrive than usual. Because of this, Smeding expects to be troubled by limited supplies until week 9.
