Peru: Piura's mango for export's price recovers

The chairman of the Board of Users of the Valley of San Lorenzo, David Cruz, said the mango for export's price had recovered and now stood at 50 soles per box.

Unfortunately, he said, the production had decreased by 50% due to the weather, which prevented the fruit from flowering during the months of sporadic rainfall.

There are about 80,000 metric tons of mangos, when in the previous campaigns there were 160,000 tons. The shortage of fruit, however, will increase its price.

"This campaign is beneficial for farmers because it will allow us to overcome the crisis. We need to keep the price and not give away our products to big companies," he said.
