US: California Navel orange season going strong

California’s Central Valley supplies the vast majority of U.S. navel oranges. Supply of navel oranges is strong this season due to warm weather says Ron Steele from Paramount Citrus. The weather circumstances have also resulted in an excellent quality product.

Demand for navels is also strong, both from the domestic market as well as Canada. Steele expects supply and demand to be in balance for at least the next eight to ten weeks. Overseas exports are more challenging as the labour dispute between workers and operators on the West Coast ports has resulted in vessels being delayed anywhere from ten to twenty days.

As a result of strong demand, navel prices are favourable. See below a table with price information from the USDA.
