Flavour boosters for soups unveiled

JDM Food Group, a UK based company, started with supplying garlic in several forms back in 2000. Since then they have expanded into many other avenues, including garlic, ginger, sweet potatoes and butternut squash, which have remained their best selling items to this day. These items are for the retail market in a whole head format. When it comes to the manufacturing sector, the company's best selling items are garlic purée, followed by ginger and chilli.

Fruit Logistica in Berlin provided the perfect opportunity to speak with Darren Beven, Commercial Director of Manufacturing & Export for JDM, to learn about the many new and exciting projects the company has been developing recently.

One of the most recent developments, yet to hit retailers and introduced at Fruit Logistica this year, are flavour tubes called Souper Booster which the company has developed for the New Convent Garden Soup Co. The new squeezable tubes are available in four different flavours; Mexican Chilli, Aromatic Thai, Roasted Moroccan and Wild Garlic and Herb. The concept behind these flavour enhancers is to encouraged people to use leftover veg to create soups from scratch. This adds convenience for the customer along with helping eliminate food waste. These flavour boosters can be added once the vegetables and other ingredients are cooked and because they are in a reusable tube, the cook can adjust the amount they would like to add to suit their tastes and save the rest for another time. JDM has just completed the first order and the tubes should be available in the UK retail market for consumers some time this spring.

Over the last year, the company has spent around £300,000 on new equipment to be able to package new products. One of these projects, developed over the last two years, are dip pots. They have spent the last 12 months preparing the factory and new equipment to be able to supply sweet sauces such as chocolate, caramels and toffee dips, which are now available at many UK retailers. These dipping sauces have many uses, one of which includes using them for favourite fruits such as apples or strawberries. The chocolate sauce is available in Pizza Huts across the UK, this, along with other flavours, are also available at retailers such as Asda, Tesco's. JDM had also created a chocolate dipping sauce especially for Marks & Spencers for Valentine's Day.
