Idaho potato demand holds strong
As the delay with west coast shipping continues, pressure is put on trucks and rail cars for produce delivery. The added inclement weather in the Northeast has also strained transport options. “We’ve signed a petition to encourage both sides of the west coast shipping issue to come to a rapid conclusion in order to help mitigate the situation,” states Muir.
High demand is attributed to the Idaho Potato Commission's unique approach to advertisement and customer appreciation. Potato Lover’s Month began in January and will run through to the end of February. “The demand deriving from this promotion allowed us to make large shipments before the storms,” declares Muir, “by promoting Idaho potatoes in this manner, we ensure they are in the forefront of consumers’ minds.”
