Fairtrasa opens new company in Dominican Republic

Fairtrasa Group, a social enterprise that develops small-scale farmers and sells their organic fruit products on international markets, is happy to announce its new supply and development company in the Dominican Republic. Fairtrasa Dominican Republic (Guneta Fairtrasa S.R.L.) will source organic, fairtrade fruit from several own small-scale farmer associations and export it to Fairtrasa Group's import companies in Europe and the US.

The company already started with considerable exports of organic bananas, while also developing ginger, avocado, mango, lemon and lime for future export.

Additionally, Fairtrasa Dominican Republic will implement Fairtrasa's signature farmer development model, which has garnered recognition from the World Economic Forum, the Clinton Global Initiative, and other development and entrepreneurship organizations during Fairtrasa's first decade of operations. Fairtarsa's new partners farmers in the Dominican Republic will join the over 6,000 small-scale farmers already in the Fairtrasa development and production network, in countries such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.

Francis Agramonte, a native of the Dominican Republic and veteran smalls-scale farmer advocate, will serve as Fairtrasa DR's country manager. He said he expects the new alliance to benefit his community and country.
