Mercadona to market 16,000 tons of Huelva strawberries

With the aim of promoting fresh Spanish products, Mercadona will offer strawberries from Huelva in its supermarkets until May. The company has purchased 500,000 kilos of strawberries since the beginning of December, when the campaign began, from their suppliers from Huelva: Uniland, Sat Las Palmeritas, Cuna de Platero, and Surexport, which employs more than 4,000 people. The supermarket chain plans to acquire more than 16 million kilos of strawberries from Huelva between now and the end of the season in May, i.e. 10% more than in the previous year.

Mercadona stated that they were able to offer "high quality strawberries that were at their optimum ripeness at a very good market price because of the assistance and effort from local suppliers and the work done that made it possible to efficiently send the product from the field to the shops."

The chain's customers will find this seasonal fruit in the Mercadona's fruits and vegetables section in the stores located in the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands. Mercadona's customers in the Canaries will be able to buy strawberries from Valsequillo.
