Canada: 1st annual Apple Month this February

This February, the largest shipper of local apples in Canada, BC Tree Fruits is
celebrating apple month. The annual Apple Month event includes several consumer and retailer activities taking place in cities across Western Canada through the month of February.

This Apple Month, BC Tree Fruits turns the spotlight on the over 500 strong co-operative of growers that produces the plentiful apple varieties found on grocery store shelves during apple month. The 2015 Apple Month campaign’s theme, “Celebrate with the Locals” encourages consumers to look for the local choice when shopping the produce aisles to support the hometown growers.

“Our growers take great pride in the fruit they produce on their family orchards, and this apple month we really made a point to share that with consumers and educate them further on the faces behind the fruit,” shares Chris Pollock, Marketing Manger, BC Tree Fruits.

The 2014-2015 BC Tree Fruit apple month crop yielded approximately 2.7 million cartons including the popular varieties Ambrosia, Royal Gala, McIntosh, Pink Lady, Spartan and more.

The BC Tree Fruits team will commence its Western Canada tour February 1st with on-site consumer tastings in Calgary (Feb 7 @ CrossIron Mills), Edmonton (Feb 14 @ West Edmonton Mall), and Vancouver (Feb 21 @ Guilford Town Centre).

In addition consumers will see in store promotions at retailers across Western Canada through all of apple month. BCTF will be sharing grower profiles and stories as well details of the apple tasting tour on their social media channels throughout the month.
