Spain: Upward trend banana imports November (+28%)

Spain’s banana imports continued their upward trend, with a 28% growth in volume and 26% in value in November 2014 compared to the same month of the previous year, to a total of 22,674 tonnes and 13.1 million Euro, respectively, according to data of the Directorate General of Customs of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Costa Rica with 6,126 tonnes, Colombia with 3,724 and Mexico with 3,260 were the main suppliers in volume. On the other hand, Costa Rica with 2.6 million Euro, Ivory Coast with 2.4 and Colombia with 2.0 were the main suppliers in value.

According to statistics, between January and November 2014, Spain’s banana imports grew by 28% compared to the same period of 2013, totalling 231,745 tonnes, and by 31% in value, reaching 136.7 million Euro.
