Coop lowers prices of imported fruit and veg

Swiss retailer Coop has, as announced, lowered the prices of imported fruit and veg, Swiss website 20min.ch reports. Since last Monday, the first fruit and vegetable varieties have become up to 20 percent cheaper.

Because of a decision by the Swiss National Bank, the price differences between products in Switzerland and the eurozone have become even greater. Coop has responded quickly to this. "For us it's clear that as soon as the Euro advantages are noticeable when purchasing, we'll immediately pass on these advantages to our customers. For instance, 200 of the fruit and vegetable varieties will become up to 20 percent cheaper today and tomorrow," Coop spokesman Urs Meier said last Monday.

The price decreases aren't limited to the fruit and veg department, however. "In other product groups where we purchase in Euro, the products will also become cheaper," Meier says. Competitor Migros is also planning on lowering the prices of imported goods from the EU soon.
