100% sustainability for beans and peas
EU delegation with the EU Trade and Communication Counsellor Christophe De Vroey visit one the Indufarm smallholder farmers in September 2014. SafariFresh is considering similar projects under the SIFAV sustainability umbrella.
SafariFresh has 25 years of experience as a premium quality vegetable producer of haricot verts, sugar snaps and mangetout. SafariFresh and InduFarm have been producing in Kenya for over 25 years and have established close ties with the local population during this time, carrying out several activities in the field of social responsibility. CEO Harry van der Plas said: “Our long term company DNA is perfectly expressed and safeguarded by the sustainability principles of IDH.”
Large companies such as Lidl, Albert Heijn, Jumbo Supermarkets and producers and traders such as the Greenery previously committed to the 100% sustainability target. ICCO, Solidaridad, and Frugi Venta support the covenant with their sector expertise. The program is coordinated by IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative.
Kebba Colley, Senior Program Manager Fruits and Vegetables, IDH: “With SafariFresh joining this initiative, once again we see an international player joining the covenant. This results in the program influencing a large geographical area and increases the scope of it. Together, we strive to 100 % sustainability in 2020. And we are well underway.”
