Marcel van der Welle, Van Ooijen Citrus:

"Few Turkish minneola shipments"

Last week, Van Ooijen Citrus started importing Turkish minneolas (15 kg open top and 9 kg cartons). "The flavour is simply good. In addition, the colour of the Turkish minneola is a lovely dark orange," says Marcel van der Welle of Van Ooijen Citrus. "The minneolas are well received by the customers. The price/quality ratio is fair. One prefers Israel, while the other is fine with Turkish, so there's something for everyone."

For the first time, this season Van Ooijen is loading the minneolas with containers instead of by truck. "It takes a bit longer for them to get here, but on the other hand, the costs are somewhat lower. The product is strong enough to deal with this," Marcel says. "At the moment there are very few shipments. A few wet and cold days are expected in the production area, so nothing is being harvested, and the stocks aren't really there, in Turkey. The weather hasn't been very good in Israel either, with storms at first, followed by some colder weather. We'll have to wait and see if this will eventually have an impact."
