Austria: traces of mercury found in vegetables

In the Austrian area of G√∂rtschitztal (in the state of Carinthia) elevated traces of mercury has been found in spinach (and other vegetables), reports the Austrian website Kurier.at. This was caused by a cement factory in Wietersdorfer burning blue lime. When this happened hexachlorobenzene and other toxins were released into the environment.

Last Monday the state made a second announcement warning people not to eat the affected food. It was also made known that outside the state of Carinthia 600 tons of food was also contaminated with hexachlorobenzene, and therefore must be burned.
