Katie's Cabbage

Katie’s Krops founder releases children's book

Katie Stagliano, 16-year-old founder and director of Katie’s Krops, is now the published author of Katie's Cabbage. The children’s book shares the story of the little cabbage seedling and the big ideas of generosity and service that motivated Stagliano to turn her experiences into Katie's Krops, a national youth movement aimed at ending hunger one vegetable garden at a time.

Katie’s Cabbage, now available on Amazon and coming soon to fine bookstores nationwide, reminds us of how small things can grow and thrive when nurtured. "This book has been a dream of mine for years,” said Stagliano. “I hope my story will inspire other children to follow their dreams."

Stagliano partnered with the University of South Carolina and Young Palmetto Books to bring her story to life. The Young Palmetto Book series highlights South Carolina writers and publishes educational books for young readers as part of their statewide literacy outreach program. “It was a pleasure to work with Katie and her family on this project,” said Kim Shealy Jeffcoat, senior editor of Young Palmetto Books. “The story of Katie and her cabbage is a wonderful addition to the series and will be enjoyed by children of all ages.”

Stagliano is thankful for the support she’s received from sponsors, "I want to thank my family, Fruits Fruits Marketing and Bonnie Plants. Their generous support made this book possible." Through the support of donations and sponsors such as Bi-Lo, LoBue Citrus, FirstFruits’ Opal Apple®, RPE’s line of Tasteful Selections™ potatoes and WP Rawl, Katie’s Krops is able to thrive.

The 2015 Katie’s Krops grant is open through December 31st so readers ages 9-16 inspired by Katie’s Cabbage have the chance to start their own gardens and join the Katie’s Krops family.
