less than 10% export so far

Export performance must improve

Because consumption of apples in Germany is decreasing, Baywa wants to export more German apples, German website reports. Particularly in Asia, demand for apples is increasing strongly. So far, less than ten percent of German apples are exported. This will have to change now, however.

Some weeks ago, Baywa already shipped a container with apples from Lake Constance to Malaysia. Over the next years, CEO Klaus Josef Lutz says, many more containers will follow. "The growth of the apple market is taking place in Asia," he said.

Baywa has the highest hopes for China, since increasing prosperity is causing more and more Chinese to show interest in the fruits. So far, apples from Germany weren't allowed to be exported there. "Politically, however, we're doing everything we can to change that," says Klaus Josef Lutz.
