Because consumption of apples in Germany is decreasing, Baywa wants to export more German apples, German website Fruchtnews.de reports. Particularly in Asia, demand for apples is increasing strongly. So far, less than ten percent of German apples are exported. This will have to change now, however.
Baywa has the highest hopes for China, since increasing prosperity is causing more and more Chinese to show interest in the fruits. So far, apples from Germany weren't allowed to be exported there. "Politically, however, we're doing everything we can to change that," says Klaus Josef Lutz.
