Cooking bus promotes potatoes

A primary school in the German Affalter recently participated in the contest 'Kids and die Knolle' (Kids and the Potato). They planted potatoes in their school garden, looked after them and documented everything. A poem was then written about it all. By participating in the project the school had the chance of a day trip in a cooking bus, and this ended up happening. The cooking bus recently visited their school.

The bus that was converted into a professional kitchen, was sent out by the Saxon market union 'Erdäpfel - Kartoffeln aus Sachsen'. This union consists of six potato growers and direct sellers from Saxony. "We started this anniversary tour in honour of our 20th anniversary and will visit 20 primary schools in total between now and the end of November," says Ariane Weiß of the union. The goal of the promotion is to teach children how to prepare balanced potato dishes themselves, under the guidance of an experienced chef. "Cooking it yourself and then eating together: it's healthy and fun," says Weiß.
