Is this the end for Chemical Based Temperature Indicators?

The term ‘temperature indicator’ is mostly associated with chemical based, time vs temperature or irreversible labels. That is until now; Cryopak’s new ‘K1’ is a temperature indicator of a different breed. An electronic alert indicator with the option of one or two alarm thresholds, the K1 brings the reliability of electronics to the world of temperature indicators. The option to have two alarm thresholds is significant as temperature indicators normally have one threshold only, meaning that in the past you would need two indicators – one for over temperature and one for under temperature.

In perishable supply chains & distribution it is imperative, whether you operate in pharma or food, to have some way of knowing that your products have been kept within the required temperature ranges. For local, last mile or consumer deliveries it is not always possible to use a device that requires data to be downloaded to a computer – the K1 fills this gap by offering the user ‘at a glance decision making’ from its LED’s. Cryopak believes that the K1 is a perfect fit for deliveries to Pharmacies, Hospitals, Supermarket home deliveries and the online food sales market.

The K1 is going to remove the uncertainty often associated with temperature indicators, giving a clear ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ – there is no ‘maybe’. Chemical based indicators can often partially change colour, making it unclear as to whether or not the temperature limit has been breached. This level of uncertainty has the potential to be disastrous, with K1 the user will have complete peace of mind that their decision will be based on fact and not an interpretation of potentially misleading information.
