Italy seeks additional opportunities for export in China

Fiera di Roma, a select group of Italian producers, was present for the first time at the recent China Fruit and Vegetables Fair (FVF) seeking opportunities in this important market. According to Armando Soldaini, “only kiwi is exported at the moment, so our intention is to develop a programme to obtain licenses for more products.”

He affirms that the process has already started, especially for oranges, which will be interesting for Sicily. “We also have a good feeling about artichokes, which appear to be an extraordinarily exotic experience for Chinese consumers, and we aim to improve kiwi exports.”

When it comes to kiwis, Italy is currently the world’s second largest producer. Armando explains that “the fruit is produced under very strict regulations, so the quality and safety of our production are at a top level.”

Another of Fiera di Roma’s goals at the event was to showcase Italy’s high-tech approach, including refrigeration, field technology and post-harvest resources. “Everything necessary to manage the farm, presented in a very interesting way, including the use of bees as a natural way to protect the crops,” concludes Armando.
