Wind Turbine in motion at Taylor Farms Gonzales

The newly installed wind turbine is yet another illustration of Taylor Farms’ commitment to sustainability. On November 18, 2014, Taylor Farms Retail began operating one of the Salinas Valley’s first wind turbines as part of the company’s clean energy strategy.

The blades of the newly installed 398 foot wind turbine will help power Taylor Farms’ Gonzales vegetable processing facility. Depending on wind flow and speed, the turbine’s blades can spin up to 20 rotations per minute and supply up to one megawatt of power.



“All of us at Taylor Farms are excited about this new wind turbine because it offers us a sustainable, clean energy generation solution. We have installed solar, fuel cell, and now a wind turbine into our energy generation system. These systems are part of our continued sustainable efforts” said Nicholas DaCosta, COO Taylor Farms Retail

Earlier this year, Taylor Farms Retail began operating a newly installed solar energy system featuring 2,250 solar panels on the roof of their salad processing plant in Salinas, CA. The energy from the panels help power the plant with one million kilowatt hours every year. In September of 2012, Taylor Farms Retail also implemented a fuel cell power system. The system provides Taylor Farms with a cleaner energy solution that produces up to 30% less carbon dioxide and uses 99.99% less water per kilowatt hour than a conventional power plant.

Together, the trio of clean energy generating equipment complements a strategy of using efficient machines and processes to minimize the demand for energy at Taylor Farms facilities.
