According to the Chamber of Commerce of Lima (CCL), agricultural exports between January and September amounted to US $2.881 billion, 28% more than in the same period last year, when they amounted to $2.244 million.
The business association said that the volume shipped had increased by 22%, from 1,351 tons shipped between January and September 2013 to 1,653 tons in the same period in 2014.
The CCL explained that this growth was due to the increased exports of products such as avocado, grape, mango and fresh asparagus.
They also noted that during the study period (January-September 2014), the agricultural sector accounted for 10% of Peru's total exports, which amounted to $28,073,000 dollars.
Traditional agriculture grew by 4% in value
Exports of traditional agriculture during the period being analysed amounted to $517 million, 4% more than in the same period last year.
However, the volume shipped decreased by 5%, from 233 tons in 2013 to 223 tons in the same period this year.
