APAL appoints new Chair

Michele AllanDr Michele Allan has been appointed as the new Chair of APAL, effective 1 January 2015.

Dr Michele Allan has been appointed as the new Chair of Apple and Pear Australia Ltd, effective 1 January 2015. She will replace John Lawrenson who is retiring from the position.

“The APAL Board is very pleased to have Michele join APAL,” said John. “She brings with her a wealth of skills in agriculture, food and research as well as excellence in governance.”

“Her experience as an independent Chair, her extensive networks in the agricultural sector and government as well as her finely tuned commercial skills and financial nous will serve the apple and pear industry well.”

“She has a passion for working for growers and I think she will add valuable leadership insights to help advance the interests of apple and pear orchardists.”

Michele is currently the Chair for Meat and Livestock Australia and a director of Grain Growers and Tasmanian Irrigation as well as a number of other agricultural organisations. She has also had a successful career as a CEO.

“I look forward to working with the management and Board of APAL,” said Michele. “The industry has an exciting future and I look forward to working with members of the industry.”

“I enjoy meeting and working with all areas of the supply chain in agriculture and their domestic and export markets.”

Michele has already been appointed to the APAL Board as a Director commencing 1 November 2014, and will take up the position of Chair on 1 January 2015.

She replaces John Lawrenson who has been a Director of APAL since 2005 and Chair since 2011. He retires in December and will remain as Chair over the coming months during a transition period with Michele.

APAL directors assisted in the selection process to recruit Michele that involved a wide and rigorous executive search Australia-wide assisted by a recruitment agency.

The full APAL Board endorsed Michele’s appointment and have welcomed her to the position.
