Toucan Fruit introduces pre-packed range of exotics

A leading London exotic fruit importer has expanded its range and launched a pre-packed range of exotics.

Toucan Fruit, a relatively young company has been importing exotics from Colombia, Thailand and Mauritius and are now broadening their source countries to include Malaysia, Dominican Republic and Brazil; they are also importing produce from the Rungis market in Paris and re-exporting it to the Middle East.

Toucan Fruit have recently set up a base in Dubai from which they supply the supermarkets, wholesale markets and catering companies across the region, and they are also planning to start up an online venture there.

Soraya Bahrami, Co Founder and CEO explains, "Consumers in the Middle East want exotic fruit, especially those they have never seen before. They follow European trends closely but the growing health craze there is still significantly behind the West. People are just starting to understand the benefits of juicing and, as such, consumer trends are moving towards rare and niche produce."

Toucan are also looking for new suppliers in international markets as they expand their UK wholesale offering and, in particular, their reach to the catering industry. "Our range of exotic veg from South East Asia is proving very popular with our customers in the Manchester and Liverpool area," she explains.

The new pre-packed exotics range is presented in wooden trays lined with straw with, for example, two Granadillas nestled in. Soraya says such beautiful produce deserves to be showcased in packaging that reflects their colourful intrigue and wonderful aromas.
