Demand for Brazilian melons exceeds availability
According to Fred, the supply is in line with last year. "In weeks 38 and 39 there was more supply of yellow melons and watermelons from Brazil when compared to last season, but in week 40 there was less yellow melons and watermelons. Now we just have to wait and see what the consequences of the drought are in Brazil for melon production. Until now the effects have been limited. A number of receivers have been careful with the October supply because that period is often not the best."
The importer expects a stable market with a good level of demand in the next coming weeks. "We are happy with how it has started. If the demand for melons is higher than what you have available, sometimes you wish you had more fruit, but sometimes you just have to be satisfied with how the situation is."
