Pomanjou’s kochenmitaepfeln.de starts the new season in style

Germany's first cooking apple with brand-name status has had an excellent start to the season: 2014’s ‘kochenmitaepfeln.de’ brand apples have a winning taste and colour, and promise a long, successful season.

Retailers can now offer their customers apples with added services again: not only do kochenmitaepfeln.de brand apples retain their bite and flavour after cooking and baking, they come with an eponymous website featuring a variety of recipes especially adapted to the Honeycrisp variety, an apple that remains firm even when heated.

Pomanjou intends to develop a new market segment with the branded cooking apple, thereby offering food retailers additional revenue opportunities. The apple producer is supporting retailers with promotional activities at POS to win over consumers for the new offer. At Fruit Logistica 2015, which takes place on February 4-6 in Berlin, Pomanjou will present its offering to fruit industry professionals and will be available for interviews.

Approved by German consumers

A consumer survey carried out directly at POS in January 2014 found that about 75 percent of respondents appreciated the consistency and appearance of the apples when using them. More than three-quarters of respondents gave the brand's website www.kochenmitaepfeln.de a positive rating. Especially those customers who already cook with apples indicated their interest in the new concept. Commenting on the survey Marc Bahbah, Sales Director at Pomanjou, said: "We care a great deal about consumers’ opinions and regularly carry out product tests. The results have shown us that people in Germany enjoy cooking with apples, so we developed kochenmitaepfeln.de to enable retailers to open up a new brand segment.”

Food blogger as advertising figurehead

The food blogger and TV chef Aurélie Bastian is the face of the brand. Known to consumers with an interest in pleasure and lifestyle as an original and charming chef and baker with a French background, she is enjoying increasing popularity. She is featured on the packaging, causing it to catch the consumer’s eye and ensuring a strong shelf presence. Bastian will also develop recipes for the website to further expand the service offering.
