The first blueberries have arrived from Argentina again. Thanks to the mild winter they are a few weeks earlier than usual. Horacio Ozer Ami and Esther van der Hoorn of Carsol Europe expect it to be a good season for South American blueberries. The weather condition in Chile have also been favourable so far. The winter was hard and there was enough rain.
Horacio and Esther a little more product to come to Europe this season. Last season the total export from South America was 17 to 20% lower than the season before. Yet 7% more in total came to Europe, as less went to the US due to the problems with the lobesia fly. Carsol Europe expects more blueberries to come to Europe again this year. Yet they aren't worrying about oversupply, as the demand in Europe has been increasing strongly in recent year. This is partially why Carsol Europe was founded by its main company Carsol Fruit; a production company of blueberries in Chile.
In previous years most of the production of this went to the US and Asia. But since last year it has also gone to their own sales office: Carsol Europe. Because they are a direct line from producer to buyer, they can supply good product for a competitive price. They are also very consequent in the quality they supply because 90% is their own product.
