New liner service from Agadir to the North Continent

The recently established company “OPDR Maroc”, a daughter company of the OPDR Group, headquartered in Casablanca, will launch a new service connection from Agadir to the North Continent. Starting 16th October 2014, the “Argan Express” service is especially designed for temperature-controlled cargo and offers short transit times to South and Northern Europe including Russia. With the start of this new service, OPDR Maroc has also opened an office in the port of Agadir.

The “Argan Express” service will call Agadir every Thursday. OPDR will employ three OPDR-owned 700 TEU vessels which provide space for up to 120 reefer container on this weekly service. On its route towards the North Continent, the “Argan Express” will directly serve ports in Spain (one transit day), England (five transit days), The Netherlands (six transit days) and offers connections to all ports in the Scandinavian-Baltic region and Russia via Rotterdam.

“The start of the new service is in line with the ongoing growth strategy of the OPDR Group in Morocco and meets our customers’ demand for competitive alternative transport services in the region of Agadir and the river Souss”, explains Michael Duhamel, Managing Director of OPDR Maroc.

OPDR has been doing business with Morocco for over 120 years, calling the port of Casablanca ever since. OPDR last called the port of Agadir in the 1950s. The return to the Souss region, which is famous for the natural resource Argan, is guided by OPDR’s strategy to be at the center of the production areas of their local customers.

“The supply of ‘door-to-door’ logistics solutions, a field in which the OPDR Group has its expertise, answers the exporters’ need where the trade policy is closely related to logistics – both from a cost reduction as well as a market accessibility point of view,” states Michael Duhamel.
