low commercial stock

Onion packers complain about low margins

Development of the price of onions is stable to slightly upward. The current bale price is around 12 cents. Sorting companies do complain that it's difficult to buy at growers, and that there is little margin in it for the packers. In general, it's assumed that most packers will have low commercial stock. "It's about marking time with investments, and paying close attention to who you do business with", the motto goes.

Nothing is wrong with demand, which ranges from Africa to Asia, and Central and Latin America. With a high quality product for little money, both new markets and markets that fell away last year can be served. Until January, most exporters have faith in the market, but what happens after that with the closure of African destinations, the effects of the Russian boycott and the new harvests in Latin America, is one big question mark.

Sales of large red onions are also continuing well, and quality-wise, the red onions are also doing well. Sales of smaller red onions are getting more and more problematic, however.
