Germany and northern Europe increasingly appreciate coloured garlic

Condifrance, a French company specialised in the production and distribution of garlic and onions, showcased many of its products at the recent edition of MacFrut, including its pink and purple garlic, as well as a very exclusive red variety “intended for the premium market, with a very strong colour,” says Nathalie Stephan, one of the export managers of the firm.

According to the firm’s representative, different coloured garlic varieties have different flavours. The red one, for instance, is sweeter. “Each country has different eating habits and preferences in terms of taste. French people, for example, prefer the lighter white garlic and Germany and northern Europe increasingly appreciate coloured garlic.”

Due to the company’s product range being targeted to a gourmet market, much attention is also paid to the quality and appearance of the packaging. “The customer values the visibility and small size of the baskets, and is very familiar with our products’ quality,” assures Natalie.

In addition to the pink and red garlic, which are peeled by hand, the company also offers black garlic, which is produced through a fermentation process with sea water. “This is a gastronomic speciality with a very special taste and creamy texture and delivered only to gourmet wholesalers,” affirms Nathalie.
