Almería: growers focusing on tomatoes and paprika in the 2014/15 season
Greenhouse area in Almería, Spain continues to grow, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de. New greenhouses in Poniente and Levante have contributed to a total greenhouse area of more then 30,000 hectares this season.
This is the main reason why there is an expectation of larger quantities of tomatoes and paprika. Almerian producers are hoping that this is the case. Compared to the 2013/14 season there seems to be no further significant changes to announce. A few speak of a small increase in zucchini - despite a possible occurrence of the New Delhi virus - since the production is not very cost-intensive and therefore provides cost-effectiveness.
