167 workers unemployed

Closure of Morrissons Dutch fresh produce packing company?

There is a proposal to terminate Dutch packing company for Morrisons, Bos Brothers Fruits & Vegetables. As a result there will be 167 workers unemployed. "We want to emphasize that there is only a proposal to terminate the company. This proposal will be presented to the works council of the company. The works council is in establishment at the moment and we will have to follow the legal term of 13 weeks," says Derk van Duijvenboode in a reaction.

"Afterwards the meetings will start between the Works council and the Managing Board in England. So there is absolutely no case of being forced to stop the activities. Bos Brothers wants to emphasize that all present agreements and the once that still have to be made for the summer of 2015 will be fullfilled. Without any reservation", continues Derk van Duijvenboode.

The activities of Bos Brothers Fruit & Vegetables BV, are international trade in fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants. The company started in 1956 and since 2001 it is part of WM Morrisson Sumpermarkets, this is the fourth biggest supermarket in the UK.

For years Morrissons is affected by competition. Discounters, such as Aldi and Lidl, saw an increase in marketshare to Morrissons' cost. The company has to cut expenses and will lower the prices. It seems that Bos Brothers became a victim of it. The company has 47 workers on the payroll and 120 through employment agencies.
