Good prices
The price was over one Euro, for virtually the entire past month. "It varied from one Euro to one and a half Euro, even reaching 1.80. But volumes were abnormally low. Some growers were only able to cut one or two kilos per week. This Monday, supply at BelOrta was just 8,000 units. Wednesday there were more: 20,000-something. But normally that should be around 50,000 units per market day."
Weather influences
He indicates that it's hard to predict what influence the weather will have on cauliflower growth. "There have been a few colder nights, so that could be one of the causes for the slow growth. August also saw a lot of rain. Whether you've been growing cauliflower for 20 or 40 years, it's impossible to predict completely. We did anticipate less growth for the cauliflower, but we hadn't expected it to last this long."
