Sri Lanka: Bumper potato harvest during Yala season

Farmers of the Uva have expressed their gratitude to the Government for the initiatives taken to safeguard the Uva cultivators ensuring a guaranteed price for potatoes.

Farmers have secured a bumper potato harvest during this Yala season. As such the Government took a decision last week to immediately halt the import of potatoes and safeguard the peasants. In addition it also stipulated a guaranteed price of 80 rupees ($0.61 USD) for a kilogram of potatoes. As such the cultivators are selling their record produce at a high price.
