Jurgen van Herp, Cabka IPS:

"Optimal fruit and vegetable shelf presentation and less loss due to new Eye-Catcher system"

The fuller the fruit and vegetable shelf and the more attractive the presentation, the more the customer will buy. This is why Cabka IPS has developed the shelf presentation system Eye-Catcher. The system results in an optimal product availability, a higher turnover and 30 to sometimes 50% less loss. "The Return On Investment is made in two months," says Jurgen van Herp.

German retail processes around 9 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually. 4 to 6 % of this doesn't even make it to the shops. This adds up to 360,000 tonnes per year, a volume that the entire city of Hamburg could be sustained with for a year. To raise the attractiveness of the supply, the trader always goes for bulging shelves. This gives the consumer the feeling of having an unlimited supply, just before closing time, but it also means that a lot of products stay in their packaging for a long time and are repeatedly displayed, with consequences. The product is damaged and the product presentation is lost.

Cabka IPS has found a solution to this problem with the 'Eye-Catcher'. It is a presentation system in which a special frame is placed under the fruit and vegetable packaging, so that the products are automatically raised. "This means that fruit and vegetable products are always visible and the crates are always full. This saves time, money and produce. A special roll-over prevents the products from sliding," Jurgen summarises. The presentation season ensures a calm and clear shelf, which is an affordable alternative to the foldable crates.

Various retailers in Germany and Austria have already tested the Eye-Catcher. "The new presentation does justice to our products," says owner Ulrich Breek of Markant from Melle. "This means that the fruits and vegetables stay in cooling for longer and we can always offer our customers qualitatively high value products."

Cabka IPS produces pallets and boxes in Weira (Thüringen), St. Louis Missouri (USA) and Ypres (Belgium). The company has around 400 employees in Europe and North America. Cabka-IPS is represented by its products in over 40 countries.
